Dog and Pet Grooming Business

Ideas on Starting a Dog Grooming Business

About: Starting a Pet Grooming Business

Whether you are thinking of having a mobile pet grooming business vehicle, starting a dog grooming business in your home, start a dog grooming business by grooming in their home, and even having a commercial store front this may just be the ideal business for any dog lover.

Research has shown that this is a growing business and the profits are quite huge (some studies say that the average dog groomer business is making $50,000/year – after expenses!). Not bad!

To tap into this lucrative business it’s recommended that you be professionally trained and certified, however many do go without the training and certification. Pending the city legalities, this may be a decision you’ll have to make. But as a personal opinion, I would recommend it. It shows that you are dedicated to being the best in your field.

Start-up Costs:

$4000-40,000

Growth Potential:

This has some great potential if you are willing to hire groomers. But once the business turns to having employees, it becomes a huge amount of work and a lot of headaches.

Side note, if your goal is to be a WAHM this business would be great if you only work from your home, by setting up a home grooming studio. Unless you have a spouse that will take on a lot of the work, plus working the hours before and after school, I wouldn’t recommend this. But I can be wrong :).

Business Marketing Ideas:

To start, meet the groomers in your city talk to them about you opening up and being a resource when they can’t take on their clients. Also contact other pet services and companies in your area and introduce yourself. Plus this is a great word of mouth business. Starting with friends, family, neighbors, co-workers is the best way to start.

Additionally creating warm and friendly brochures with quality pictures detailing everything you do will be the best marketing tool. These brochures can be canvased throughout the city in vet offices, pet stores, dog parks, grooming locations, kennels, pet food stores, animal shelters, and community centers.
